Five Easy Halloween Decoration Ideas
It’s October 30th, you’re coming home from work and you realize that tomorrow is Halloween..
You have no costume, candy, nor decorations, let alone holiday spirit. Does that sound familiar? Perhaps not, but the hustle of our everyday lives can certainly cause us to forget to prepare for holidays like Halloween. Don’t worry though, you’ve still got time to make things right. Below are five Halloween decoration tips that'll get you in the holiday spirit (on a time crunch).
1. Buy some candy!
Okay so this isn't necessarily a decoration tip, but you’ve got to have sweets on hand. Think of all the kids that'll come to your door, or maybe you’re going to a party and can sweeten up the occasion by bringing the sugar? The quickest and cheapest selection of candy will always be at Dollar Store, Dollar Tree, or one of their close relatives.
Remember- stores understand that people like to put off their Halloween candy shopping until last minute, so they raise their prices to earn an extra buck. Beat them at their own game by being extra prepared and grabbing candy as early as possible!
2. Create alternative Jack-o-lanterns
Not enough time to buy, carve and set up a Jack-o-lantern? No worries. Try taking an orange or clementine and hollowing out its insides, then carving it just as you would a pumpkin. Be careful, as the skin is more fragile than a pumpkin. I would also recommend a small battery light instead of a candle, due to the make-shift jack-o-lanterns size. This can also be a fun, creative project if you have kids!
3. Combine outfits to make a costume
Nothing says Halloween decoration quite like a Halloween costume! If you’ve read our other Mod about costumes reminders, then you might have already have a costume bin where you can mix & match previous items to create new looks. Don’t have old costumes laying around? No worries! there are a ton of interesting characters that dressed normally- why not dress up as Steve Jobs? You could also combine clothes randomly and ask people to guess who/what you are. If you like their guess, that’s what you can claim to be.
4. Shots in syringes
This one's for the adult crowd, and what kind of adult celebrates Halloween without a magic elixir? Instead of taking shots the old fashioned way, pour your liquor into colored syringes and then drink them with your friends. I don’t really know why you would have syringes lying around your home, but you can pick some cheap ones up from your local pharmacy or drug store. Some people are afraid of syringes, which just further adds to the Halloween spirit!
5. Take spooky photos
The best way to remind yourself and others of the Halloween spirit is to share photos from previous years festivities! Pictures from that haunted house you went to with your friends, the pumpkin you carved that won first place at the community fair, your child's first Halloween costume, etc. Photos allow us to relive those moments again and again, forever.
Also, don't forget to take photos with your friends and family this year. In-costume or not, you’ll look back on these pictures one day and remember how much fun you had. You’ll also have something to post on social media and not feel left out from all the other spooky pics being shared on Facebook.
